Kallistra Space dreadnought 3000 ships

Its been a while since Ive made any real progress on my own projects.  Although Ive been recollecting 15mm sci fi for a couple of years,  it was at the last Warfare show that I picked up a couple of 1/3000 scale space fleets from the Kallistra stand. I think I paid less £15  per fleet and that was for  eight ships and metal stands , which I thought was a very reasonable price.  I picked up the Quellaris fleet and the Altaran fleet and got a free set of the  rules thrown in! Thank you :)

So, having  not painted any tiny spaceship since the mid -eighties ( I have half a dozen spaceships bought from Esdevium games whilst I was still at school) I took a fairly conservative approach to painting this new batch.

Behold! The fleet of  the Quellarians!

As you can see, I didn't stop with painting a few ships... oh no..
Some months before , without knowing why, I bought a pack of various sized polystyrene balls from a craft retailer. Once I'd purchased my ships I then realised what the balls were for ! Planets! Set to with the poly cement to make an asteroid or two, followed by a lovely  6 x 4 ft  space matt from A & B games across the road and I'm all set for interstellar chaos.

Shortly, thereafter, followed the Altaran fleet. who will save us from the Altaran onslaught? Aaaaaah!

A couple of hotwheels 'Star wars'  and  some plastic fighters and bases from E4M I think, plus another session making 22 planets of various sizes and colours ( thanks to my  daughter for the nail varnish for the  swirly enamelling ) and I am ready to rock and roll. Mission accomplished :)

Sci fi troops in cold weather gear. 15mm GZG?

I found an odd tray with these little fellas in it.Some how they never made it to the sacrificial altar in the loft where a million little  beings await the lead god's pleasure. In their off-white parkas, I thought they would make good arctic fighters  or but without skis or pack I thought a cold weather idea would suit better. Also I have no polar / ice world terrain so I didn't want to have these with winter bases.

I tried adding a little Woodlands Scenics snow to the bases in patches with the idea of showing melting frost, but it didn't work. They just look shite. I imagined how the area just around the tufts of grass would be clear of frost but I wasn't up to the job.  Next time I will  use plaster, leaving little circles clear  and pop in the tufts after it's dried. I had used this material before on a diorama showing a  vehicle on a road with melting snow, and that that worked a treat. But not this time. Maybe next time.

15mm mechs

Just added a couple of photos of some cheap plastic mechs to the sci-fi pages as I try to clear some space in the workroom for another project.

I haven't tied these to any particular species or faction but I'll play test them with the GRASP ruleset and see how they perform.

The Scene - Jet bike riders

Just finished a small group of jet bike riders from The Scene..

I think I prefer the silver schemes  and I  do not like the desert camo, so I might have to repaint it. The figure have elongated  aerodynamic  helmets which  will make them suitable riders for some  humanoid aliens I have with elongated heads.

More pics in the Sci fi section --->

Thanks for looking :)

The Scene - sci fi mines

The Scene does these nifty little mines, could be big mines in 15 mm or little mines in larger scales.. I'm thinking about putting some of them on a base to make a minefield  counter, perhaps thinking of mines as a type of very difficult terrain. A few I might keep as stowage. In my games, units are represented by blinds until spotted, so I'd like to try using static blinds to represent minefields, finally revealed when someone makes contact.

The Scene Scifi Assault Hovercraft

Bought these two hovercraft from The Scene last year. I've been sent a pile of  stowage to paint including some radars so I thought I'd try fitting a radar to one of the hovercraft as a command / scout vehicle. Mike was kind enough to throw in some mg mounts so I could give these units some visible weaponry.

My first job was to hide the join between the hulls and the skirts. I used different methods on each vehicle since they could easily have different mods for their different roles - I gave the assault team carrier a heavier, reinforced channel to better withstand the wear and tear of men climbing in and out. The command/ scout got a big GSR unit high up on the roof so they could spot from a hull down position. I considered giving them a satellite dish style radar too so they could communicate with airborne or space borne command centres but thought better of it.

I added some tread plate so the crew wouldn't slip so much on a wet surface when using the forward hatches and applied some textured paint to the tops of the skirts to make it easier to carry out inspections walking around the vehicles. A couple of steps were provided from copper wire to help to crew up onto the roof and I was done with modifying. There would be room for some stowage on the rear roof to be added after painting.

15mm Sci fi Hovercraft from The Scene - Just finished :)

Hi,
Just finished these two hovercraft with some added bits and bobs. I tried out a few schemes before I settled for this one.  I've been painting some samples for Mike to use in his cabinet at shows and on his website and I had a lot of extras to use on future projects. I think the extra kit, radar, tarps and ammo etc  make the models more interesting and allow me to create new types like the recce hovercraft with the radar. See more in the Sci fi section link on the right.

The Scene 15mm plus ammo crates

Just posted some pics of  The Scene's ammo crates onto my Sci-fi blog ( see nav to right) These should make great objectives, supplies or maybe out of ammo markers. along with oil-drums and ammo boxes I'm hoping to make some bases look more interesting and to adorn my mahoosive shanty town once I've got the buildings painted.

These are just a few of the ammo boxes just waiting for my units to claim. I might add them to units who perform well in battle, adorn a few mid tech vehicles or make them into supply counters. Same with the oil drums below - great for post apocalyptic games or supplies for my fuel hungry soldiers.

15mm 28mm Oil drums from The Scene

Just added the last coat of matt to these oil drums from The Scene. There are two sizes of drum.
The smaller  drums are sold as oil drums, the larger ones as large chemical drums. They also come as a set of damaged drum and in stacks of threes, great for dios and objectives. All these below are of the smaller oil drums. I'll add some pics of the larger drums to the sci fi page.

Colonial Marines

QRF's Colonial Marines. These are the grunts of my human forces, whether sent by government sponsors or commercial hirers, these are often the first to get their hands dirty when something goes wrong on an human occupied class M planet.

Just started my new sci fi army. This is a walker from TheScene.
