Fahnentrager, 9th Prussian Infanterie Regt. (Reserve) 1813

A great boon  for me  of being on a forum is the occasional impetus that arises from  various group builds and duels. I was  a littler foolhardy to launch during a busy time into another duel on Bennos Figure Forum. As is usual for me  everything was completed last minute and I really enjoyed taking a loose approach to painting.

Now I'm looking forward to  doing some better photos, getting some backdrops painted and  painting another  box or two to join this fellow.
Thanks for stopping by :)

Thurn und Taxis fictional Napoleonics 20mm Artillery

As a warm up for a renewed burst of modelling and wargaming activity I tried the well established practice of creating a a fictional force. Given I have thousands of bases of figures for the Napoleon's Battles system I decided to stick with that basing system since, although I am more likely to use my own GRASP rules (beta free and available for download on the right of the page) the GRASP system will accommodate any basing style and I won't be stuck with years  of costly rebasing. So utilising some AWI figures to reflect  the Alte Ordnung der Artilleristen (?) I had a bit of fun.

Having looked at some old pic and stamps for Thurn und Taxis I can see that Yellow Ochre might have been a better colour for the Artillery but I'm pretending the newer field pieces, at least, are a present from their French allies.

New GRASP Rules - Play anything :)

I've uploaded a new set of rules I've written  that should enable anything to be played against anything.
If you have time and inclination to try them I would love to hear any feedback.

The Scene 15mm plus ammo crates

Just posted some pics of  The Scene's ammo crates onto my Sci-fi blog ( see nav to right) These should make great objectives, supplies or maybe out of ammo markers. along with oil-drums and ammo boxes I'm hoping to make some bases look more interesting and to adorn my mahoosive shanty town once I've got the buildings painted.

These are just a few of the ammo boxes just waiting for my units to claim. I might add them to units who perform well in battle, adorn a few mid tech vehicles or make them into supply counters. Same with the oil drums below - great for post apocalyptic games or supplies for my fuel hungry soldiers.

20mm Napoleonic Austrian Artillery

Here's a batch of arty for my Austrian corps from Kennington Miniatures. The Kennington figures were very easy to paint, although the small bases  made it awkward to mount each figure for painting. I must have bought them a good 10 -15 years ago or more from  the annual Warfare show. Entered for a painting duel at Bennos figures forum ; always a great  way to motivate the eternal prevaricator.

Fishing Friar- Conversion of 20mm Valdemar figure

Here's something I entered for a duel at Bennos Figures. Didn't do too badly and I learnt a lot on the way as it was the first time I tried to make  realistic water.

I also experimented with Noch laser cut printed foliage. Not overly impresed with these though. The bullrushes are a little weedy and the seed itself is very flat, so I painted it to look a little more three dimensional.  I've just realised it would look great with a vignette of 30mm flat figures.
Had fun painting a 1/72nd carp and perch from Preisser. The  figure is  from Valdemar Figures I believe. I converted him to a  monk, expressing my inner hermit!

I tried to showed the various layers of geology as the river had cut through them over time.

Originally the  sides of the vignette showed the  underlying stratigraphy, but this was lost when the resin water glued the shutters tight and I had to incorporate them.

The water took ages to dry, used capillery action to climb up my shutters and spread across the grass! When the shutters were removes the still soft lower layers started to bulge out. Plastic sprue was used for the branch / rod and human hair  for the line.
