A few more 28mm commissions RPG - fantasy D & D

Flitting like a mad thing  from project to project  at the moment -
on my desk are 2mm Turks VSF, 15mm scale giant bio-Mech, 28mm fantasy, 25mm Napolionics, 20mm Napoleonics and 1/1200 ships. For some reason I seem to be running out of bases, brushes and paints all at the same time!

Oh! and I set up a figure painting service  -  the website is https://minipaint.co.uk

Any thoughts as to how I could improve the site or service much appreciated.

Anyhow, here are my latest efforts -  6 D & D characters for my good friend ( and most generous patron!).

Grass tuft frenzy, Das anuses and chaos warriors

Had a little experiment with some DAS and a collection of grass tufts to make some shell craters. As you can see the results are a  bit primitive and although I checked out some shell craters on google, these look more like anuses!  They curled a little as they dried, so I might try forming them onto  mdf round bases in the future. I could also add some muddy water in the centres. I'll try to remember for next time.

I tried out some larger tufts on my Naps Bats bases as being 20mm figures on 25mm bases there is a lot of spare room. I picked up a few different manufacturers' tufts, and whilst I liked the sheets that had various sizes and shapes  all together, in terms of actually using them, they're pretty much all the same. at least now my Bavarian and Prussian reservists have something to cower behind.

These are my latest ( originally  I wrote 'lastest' - I hope that's  not phrophetic!) chaos troops, liberally festooned with grass. Not only does it hide  litttle errors with the ground-work but it's also quicker than glueing static grass everywhere. I've added the chaos warriors here to the DBA -  Hott link  on the right.

Ciao.

New GRASP Rules - Play anything :)

I've uploaded a new set of rules I've written  that should enable anything to be played against anything.
If you have time and inclination to try them I would love to hear any feedback.

15mm 28mm Oil drums from The Scene

Just added the last coat of matt to these oil drums from The Scene. There are two sizes of drum.
The smaller  drums are sold as oil drums, the larger ones as large chemical drums. They also come as a set of damaged drum and in stacks of threes, great for dios and objectives. All these below are of the smaller oil drums. I'll add some pics of the larger drums to the sci fi page.

A few more fantasy 28mm figures

A few more figures for my good friend and   most prolific customer :) Let's hope his missus doesn't realise the scale of his obsession!

Might be the first she-dwarf I've ever painted. (Reminds me a bit of my wife)

HoTT 28mm Skeletons

Just repaired a few old skeletons from the collection. These are the GW plastics that are probably still selling since before the turn of the century. More pics of the rest of the units on  the DBx / HoTT page.

Old Grenadier Bugbears 25mm

Had some RPG figures hanging around for the last 25 years or so, finally based them up for HoTT. I will sort out a link for a HoTT blog soon. I was probably in my teens when I painted these.

I will probably have to class these as warband or similar.

Backlog of 28mm commission figures

A few figures I've painted over the years were brought round by the client so I could make a record. I wanted to compile a visual catalogue of effects I've stumbled upon, to help me remember techniques.

These are deserty types for one of my client's campaigns. Loads more on figure linky -->

Fish Warrior

Vintage 25mm Greek Hoplites

Greeks in Column
Just finishing off some old  Greek hoplites that have been hanging around for ages. One of them had lost a head, so I replaced it with a resin cast 'Amazon ' head, only to find a spare figure a week later. Another round of tidying in the magic cave of wonder ( a.k.a. the loft ) revealed a packet of 40mm spears (Foundry), ideal for the  2 metre spears they would have carried, but not as nice as the Warlord  examples I was originally going to use. With most of the figures holding their spears horizontally, it was going to be difficult to arrange them so they could all  form up together in column. With some faffing I managed to sort them out into compatible 2-deep pairs which could then mesh  as a full column although some of them are at risk of  killing the guys in front :(

I spent over 40 quid yesterday on Dutch plate leaf (fake gold) and some new gilt finishes to try and improve the look of the polished bronze armour on future figures. On these ones I used a mix of  gold metallic acrylics with various brown,  yellows and whites added to  form highlights and shadows. I'm not entirely convinced. I also used  Little Big Men Studios 20mm Hoplite  transfers, with some Noch grass clumps and scatter to make wild flowers. Spears are all painted up, just  need to find three swords and Ill post a close up.
