DBA 'Big Battle' Hungarians versus Mediaeval Germans

Had a great evening's game, playing double DBA, using cards rather than dice. Each player had 24 cards  (4 sets of 1-6) and I felt the game was much more fun than with dice.  See the DBA link on the right for more details and pics.

The pic shows the Hungarian knights - bottom centre -  about to crash into my Crossbows. The Hungarian C in C is already gnashing at my mercenary pikes but about to come unstuck :)

wurttemburg Uhlans 15mm Principles of War

A couple of years ago  I bought a selection of  figures for the various Franco-Prussian and Austro-Italian wars. I remember the artillery teams from Outpost were excellent value, and I may well have bought a few more of their figure besides. Also I remember acquiring a  few battle packs from Lancashire Games. So there are two possible sources for  these - my  Wurttemburg Uhlans. Perhaps they were intended to be Saxons, I can't remember since despite a well intentioned attempt to get them cleaned up, and undercoated on painting strips it has been far too long before I settled down to paint them and forgot to write what they were supposed to be. Remembering the struggle  to get the Wurtemburg Flags I ordered from ORF so many years ago ( unsuccesfully). Perhaps I am ready to give them another chance. If my current order comes through I will try again for the flags but I'm aware how very much I avoided QRF (despite their many attractive products) after one less than perfect experience. If all goes well I hope to have some 'Precinct 9' style Buffel and Prawn sci fi conflicts plus some nice looking dinosaurs in 15mm for  my hapless victims  friends to discover waiting in ambush. Vietnam '69 will never be the same....

Anyhow, enough nonsense; here are my as yet unflagged Wurttemburger Uhlans. These will go to the POW section  on the right of this page once they are finished.

Thanks for looking :)

Prussian Hussars 15mm Franco Prussian Wars

Just finished  four  regiments of hussars for use with PoW rules for the 19th century. I think that's all the Hussars I need for a Corp plus attached Cavalry division. The majority are either Lancashire or Outpost troopers; all the officers etc. are probably Essex and thus a little bigger.

I would like to say I had fun painting the edging around the shabraques, thirty white triangles followed by thirty coloured triangles for each figure, but I can't.

 It wasn't fun.
Where are the painting nanobots I dream of?

1st Leib Regt. of  Hussars

Somehow this shot has  highlighted the difference in size, they don't look that bad - honest :)

2st Leib Regt of Hussars 1870

I chose the 1st and 2nd Leib regiments because they're black, mostly, and arguably 'elite'. Same goes for the next regiment -  the 3rd (Brandenburg) regiment which performed well in combat and adds a bit of colour to the sea of dark blue uniforms.

3rd Regt Brandenburg Hussars
Last but not least are the hussars of the 5th Regiment (Pomeranian). These are  dressed in madder dolmans; I checked out several shades of madder and couldn't really decide which  shade to go for. If you think its a way off, you can let me know.

5th Regt hussars ( Pomeranian)

So there we go, twenty four figures with sixty triangles a piece.... I make that.....

... a lot of triangles.

15mm Sassanid Persian Horde for DBM/ DBMM

One of those stalled projects -  my Sassanid Persians. I had a great time  painting these Lancashire 15mm figures  but stalled when it came to painting the crew for my elephants.

There are 12 bases in all - the rest are in my DBx blog. Linky on the right -->

DBA 22a New kingdom Egyptians

Here's my latest rush job, ready in 2 days for a competition at PAWS on Saturday 9th March 2013. I've not much chance of winning but it was good to be motivated to paint something. I'd like to add stripes to the tea towels and  maybe kohl to the eyes, but only if they win!

These are 15mm Lancashire figures; probably had these sitting around for 10 years or so and there's easily enough for a DBM army. Found a Kushite army too, 3 boxes of them. About time I got them painted. I'll be moving my DBx armies to a seperate site soon as I've got stacks to photo and upload.
